New Song - "The Truth" by In Flames
It seems like In Flames has been adopting an increasingly mainstream sound. Conversely, their album sales have been on a downward trajectory. I know what you're thinking: "but isn't the music industry as a whole is suffering?". Yes, but I've noticed that metal hasn't been hit quite as hard by this. Sure, you'll see a noticeable drop in mainstream bands, but pick some of the more obscure ones, which In Flames is kind of a part of, and you'll see a slightly different story.
This new track off of their upcoming album 'Battles' is a prime example of a metal band going almost completely mainstream. Take a listen below:
After hearing that children chant right at the beginning, I knew I was in for a bit of trouble. I just don't like children chants in my music, it's just...tacky. It also doesn't help that the band as a whole just seems a lot less inspired. The melodies aren't as engaging and the whole song is mid-tempo. There's a chance that since this is the lead single that it's the only one that's truly catered to the radio crowd, but in my experience the single has always been a bit of an indicator of what to expect on the rest of the album. I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope that they really bring the heat on the rest of the album.
'Battles' comes out on November 11th.
