Box Office Results - 'Hobbs & Shaw'

Another summer, another Fast & Furious franchise film. This time it’s a bit of a spin-off with Hobbs & Shaw that pairs Dwayne Johnson with Jason Statham. I don’t think there was a question about whether or not this would snag the number one spot, but I think people were curious as to whether or not this one would have a spin-off level opening, or match some of the later mainline Fast and Furious films. Let’s take a look at the numbers below:

The Fast and the Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (Universal)
Box Office: $60 million

I think $60 million would be a poor opening for a $200 million film if it weren’t a part of the Fast and Furious franchise, but it is, and this series is an absolute behemoth in foreign markets, particularly in China where it has yet to open. This $60 million opening and the lack of big budget films in the immediate future could give this film a pretty nice runway to clear the way for around $140 million stateside. That said, keep an eye on foreign markets because this could end up being a massive hit just like its predecessors.
