Box Office Predictions - 'The Grinch', 'Overlord' and 'The Girl in the Spider's Web'
It’s been a busy, busy Fall season thus far, much busier than I ever remember it being in the past. After Bohemian Rhapsody stunned with it’s stellar $52 million debut, another film has eyes on the crown and it might just feature a grumpy, green-furred individual that has a distaste for Whos and their beloved Christmas. Take a look at this week’s predictions down below.
The Grinch (Universal)
I think this will be our clear winner this weekend. Easily. Illumination Entertainment has yet to have a box office disappointment and they know exactly how to tap into their audience. With the brand power of Grinch alongside the marketing prowess of Illumination, this should be a slam-dunk, especially with Thanksgiving and Christmas around the corner. Look for The Grinch to gross upwards of $60 million.
Prediction: $67 million
I wish this film were tracking better, but it looks like Overlord could end up being a minor bomb at the box office. The nearly $40 million WWII horror film is a schlocky blast that deserves to be seen by anyone that likes their period war films drenched in action and horror thrills. Overlord will be lucky to crack $10 million at the box office this weekend.
Prediction: $9 million
The Girl in the Spider’s Web (Sony)
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo gets a reboot/sequel with a completely re-vamped cast and crew. The movie looks fine, if a tad bit generic, which is why I think no one will show up. For one, David Fincher’s under-rated Dragon Tattoo film is a distant memory, and this new one looks like a complete stylistic departure and seems to lack the artistic flourishes that were so captivating. I predict that The Girl in the Spider’s web will gross a measly $8 million.
Prediction: $8 million
