Box Office Predictions - 'The Circle' and 'How to be a Latin Lover'
This is going to be another extremely slow weekend before due to studios clearing the way for heavy-hitters Fate of the Furious and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. The highest profile release this weekend is The Circle, and the only other technically wide release is How to be a Latin Lover.
The Circle (STX Entertainment)
Prediction: $9 million
The Circle is a drama/thriller based off of the David Eggers novel of the same name. There's some serious star power behind this one as it's led by Emma Watson and Tom Hanks. I think there's a fair degree of interest for this one and it doesn't look that bad, but I just don't know how many people are actually going to be motivated enough to go see it when there's so much else out there vying for moviegoers attention. At the very least, this film has a chance at cracking $10 million and maybe making around $23-28 million in the long run, maybe even $30 if it sprouts some legs.
How to be a Latin Lover (Pantelion)
Prediction: $3.5 million
How to be a Latin Lover is a new comedy directed by Ken Marino. I haven't seen a single bit of promotional material for the film and it's opening in barely over 1000 screens, which could be a red flag for its box office prospects. There are also no reviews posted for the film yet which usually indicates that the studio is hesitant to show their film to critics because they're afraid of the bad publicity it might generate. I'd be shocked if Latin Lover makes it above $5 million for the weekend.
