Box Office Predictions - 'The Fate of the Furious'
We've only got one film coming out this weekend, but it's a doozie! The Fate of the Furious hits theaters at full-speed this weekend following the massively successful Furious 7, which made more than 1.5 billion dollars worldwide. We already know Fate of the Furious is going to be huge, but can it equal Furious 7?
The Fate of the Furious (Universal)
Prediction: $120 million
There's a lot of excitement surrounding this film and it's going to be huge, let's just get that out of the way. That said, there are certain things not going for this one that were going for the last one. For one, there was a sense of finality to the marketing in Furious 7, which always draws a little more interest. Two, the death of Paul Walker was highly publicized and this one was marketed as an emotional send-off to the beloved star. Finally, the reviews for Furious 7 were the best reviews the entire series had seen, at the time it had an impressive 81% on Rottentomatoes that made Furious 7 an obvious must-see experience.
Fate of the Furious has the benefit of awareness. So many people saw Furious 7, making the brand an even more widely-known property. The brand name alone should draw a significant crowd. The marketing for the film has also shown off some of the insane stunts in store for this film, and they look impressive, even though they don't look quite as strong as the previous film. Fate also has some pretty decent reviews, it's somewhat comfortably in the "fresh" zone on Rotttentomatoes with around 66% positive, so it's not really going to lose much of an audience because of reviews.
Overall, I think the film could come close to matching the previous film, but I believe there will be a noticeable drop in attendance, but not enough to put a ding in the series. I predict that Fate of the Furious makes it to around $120 million, and maybe around $270 total domestically.
Check back in after the weekend for the results!
