Box Office Predictions - 'Logan', 'The Shack' and 'Before I Fall'
We've got three wide releases hitting theaters this weekend, but there's no question that one of them is going to handily take the crown, that one being Logan. Logan is riding a wave of buzz an dis also the final performance of the character by Hugh Jackman, so yeah, people are going to show up. We also have the faith-based drama The Shack coming out which stars Sam Worthington and finally have the Groundhog's Day-esque drama, Before I Fall.
Prediction: $90 million
There are people out there thinking that this film is only going to make around $65 million, which I think is pretty low considering just how good the trailers have been and how positive all of the reviews are. I'm taking into account the fact that I really haven't heard anyone say anything negative about this film and every time Logan is brought up, it's usually met with the reaction of: "I can't wait to see that movie".
I'm going to be bold just like I was with Get Out last weekend and predict that Logan grosses a whopping $90 million this weekend. That wouldn't quite be the break-out hit that Deadpool was, but it will be a career best for the Wolverine's solo adventures. If Wolverine claws its way to $90 million this weekend, expect it to have pretty decent holds and end up with around $230 in the bank by the end of its domestic run.
The Shack (Lionsgate/Summit)
Prediction: $11 million
I think out of all the faith-based dramas, this is one that people are a little more excited about, mainly because it's based upon a popular novel and has the potential to be a heartwarming crowd-pleaser. Sam Worthington isn't much of a draw in the lead role, and I didn't think the trailers looked that good, but that really doesn't matter all that much to the type of audience that is drawn to these films. My prediction for The Shack is $11 million for the weekend and $35 million by the time it's done in theaters.
Before I Fall (Open Road Films)
Prediction: $2.5 million
Here's another film that has had very little exposure and will likely not bring in much of anything because of it. Before I Fall is a drama where a girl relives the same day over and over. Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, in like thirty movies before this one. Before I Fall might be able to muster up $2.5 million for the weekend and a final total of $6 million by the time it's all finished.
Well that does it for this weekend's predictions, check back in on Monday for the results!
