Trailer - 'Annabelle 2'
Here it is, the sequel everyone's been waiting for; Annabelle 2! Actually, despite my sarcasm, I'm looking forward to this. I know the consensus on the first Annabelle is not great, but I found it to be a competent chiller and felt like people were a bit harsh on it because it had to follow in the footsteps of The Conjuring. Seriously though, anyone that didn't find the basement/elevator sequence at least a bit terrifying is kidding themselves.
Despite the reception, Annabelle was a huge success at the box office, grossing a stunning $256 million worldwide on a mere $6.5 million budget. So, seeing the math, WB quickly churned out a sequel and the first teaser can be viewed below:
This definitely looks more promising. The lone house in the country setting is already a creepier playground for Annabelle to do her thing in. There's also some more credible acting talent; featuring Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) in the lead. Most notable, though, is the director change. David F. Sandberg will be helming the sequel, if that name doesn't sound familiar, you're probably going to start hearing it a lot more often. He's the guy that brought us Lights Out this past summer and though I didn't see that film, I hear that it's a very competent horror film.
Look for Annabelle 2 to haunt theaters May 19, 2017, marking the fourth entry in what I like to call the CCU or the "Conjuring Cinematic Universe". Trust me, it'll stick!
