News - 'The Simpsons' to Have First Hour-Long Episode

It's crazy to think that 'The Simpsons' is still going. The beloved show is now gearing up for its 28th season which is unprecedented (along with it's 600th episode!). I haven't actually watched 'The Simpsons' in quite some time, but it gives me comfort that I can still turn on the television and catch a new episode of a show that's been around since my birth.

Oddly enough, 'The Simpsons' has never had an episode that has stretched to the hour-length. sure they got a great feature-length movie that released in theaters, but never an actual episode. It's kind of funny when you think that even it's brother-in-spirit show, 'Futurama' had at least four of them. Well, if you wanted an hour-long episode of 'The Simpsons', you'll be getting one.

At the Television Critics Association summer press tour and through 'The Simpson's' executive producer, Matt Selmann, it was revealed that an episode titled "The Great Phatsby" would make it to the hour-mark. Selmann was quoted saying:

"This was just going to be a regular episode, but the table read went so well, in a fit of passion and excitement and ambition and excess, we decided to supersize it. And we haven’t done a huge amount of stories in the world of hip-hop and rap culture, so we just went for it."

"The Great Phatsby" apparently follows the split between Mr. Burns and hip-hop Mogul Jay G. Mr. Burns represents the old Gatsby while Jay G. Represents the new one. Selman adds that it's a tale of "Greed, excess, betrayal, revenge, and ruthlessness."

Sounds interesting, I look forward to seeing how the promotional material sells this. It looks like I may have to tune back in to this show come January when it airs. For now, I might just catch up on a few episodes, it's been too long.
