Box Office Predictions - 'Don't Breathe', 'Hands of Stone' and 'Mechanic: Resurrection'

Box Office Predictions - 'Don't Breathe', 'Hands of Stone' and 'Mechanic: Resurrection'

Just by looking at the films coming out tomorrow you can tell that the summer is winding down. This weekend sees the release of horror/thriller Don't Breathe which is the second film from Fede Alvarez who also brought us the competent remake of Evil Dead. Biographical boxing film, Hands of Stone is also coming out and it tells the story of Roberto Duran. Finally, we have the highly-anticipated *cough* sequel to The Mechanic; Mechanic: Resurrection (never seen that subtitle before).

Don't Breathe
Prediction: $14 million
The only film likely to not be a casualty this weekend is Don't Breathe. It's a buzzy little thriller about some kids that break into a blind man's house. Little do they know that this guy is not afraid of using excessive and deadly force to defend himself. The film quickly becomes a tension-filled cat-and-mouse game. The reviews for this film have been great so far and if anything has played well in theaters this year, it's horror films. I'm going to predict $14 million for Don't Breathe.

Hands of Stone
Prediction: $5 million
This film seems to have virtually no interest or buzz at all. I would guess even lower for this film but I think that the crowd it attracts are not usually the ones to talk about it online. The movie follows famed boxer Roberto Duran and his fight with Sugar Ray. The trailers were pretty "meh", but boxing films tend to hold up better with audiences, so we'll see. My guess is $5 million.

The Mechanic: Resurrection
Prediction: $8 Million
I didn't even know the first Mechanic was successful enough for a sequel. This film looks exactly like those Transporter and Hitman reboots that flopped last year. That being said, I'm going to guess that this film achieves a similar box office weekend. It might perform just a hair better based off of the presence of Jason Statham, but I doubt it. I don't see this film getting much higher than $8 million this weekend.

Here's hoping my predictions are a bit closer this weekend, I'm kind of on a losing streak. That being said, I won't be unhappy if every film magically over-performs, I'm all for a healthy box office. Be sure to come back this coming Monday for this weekend's box office results!
