News - Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly to Team Up for 'Holmes and Watson'
Now this is what I've been waiting for! Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are finally reuniting for Holmes and Watson over at Sony. These guys play off of each other so well as evidenced by their previous works together; Step-Brothers and Talledega Nights. The very idea of the two of them playing the iconic sleuths gets me giggling. It could be a case where the concept sounds too good to be true and might not be nearly as funny as I'm envisioning it could be in my mind, but hey, I had to same feelings about This is the End and Tropic Thunder, and those turned out to be some of my favorite comedies.
As you might have guessed, It appears Ferrell will be playing Sherlock Holmes himself, and Reilly will be playing Watson. I Would have it any other way. There are so many questions I have about how this comedy is going to play out. Will it be a period piece? I hope so. Will both Ferrell and Reilly attempt posh British accents? Which comedian will play the villain?
My only fear at this point is the director. Etan Cohen who brought us Get Hard, will be taking the reins on Holmes and Watson. I will say that he's got some great writing credits to his name in the form of King of the Hill, Beavis and Butthead, Idiocracy, and Tropic Thunder. There's also hope that Get Hard was more of a warm-up and we have yet to see what this director is really capable of.
Filming is supposed to be underway as early as this Fall, which makes it surprising that we're just now hearing about this now. The film could release as early as summer of next year if all goes according to plan. Until then, I'll be eagerly awaiting every little nugget of information about this project, and hope that it rises to it's full potential once it releases next year.
