Box Office Predictions: 'Office Christmas Party' and 'Miss Sloane'
This weekend sees the release of two new-comers that hope to make a little change before Rogue One massacres the competition next weekend. These two hopefuls consist of the holiday-themed raunchy comedy Office Christmas Party and the Jessica Chastain-starring thriller, Miss Sloane.
Office Christmas Party (Paramount)
Prediction: $14 million
The largest release this weekend is Paramount's Office Christmas Party, which has an oddly unexciting and very literal title. The film is releasing in 3,100 theaters and is looking to make some money this weekend and hopefully counter-program Rogue One next weekend. I think it has a pretty good chance of holding up throughout the holiday season, mainly because Bad Santa 2 bombed and people are going to be looking for some Christmas-flavored entertainment in the coming weeks.
As for the film's opening weekend; I don't think it's going to be too monumental, but it will be good enough to sprout some legs and make a decent amount by the time it's all wrapped up. I think the star power of Jennifer Aniston and Jason Batmen should ensure that it gets past the $10 million mark at least. My prediction for Office Christmas Party is $14 million for the weekend.
Miss Sloane (EuropaCorp)
Prediction: $4.5 million
Miss Sloane, the thriller starring Jessica Chastain and directed by John Madden is getting a muted wide release from the now-defunct EuropaCorp. The movie is hitting 1,600 theaters and probably won't make much of a commotion, especially since it's competing with so many other movies that appeal to the same demographics. On top of that the film is getting middling reviews, so word-of-mouth won't likely do it any favors either. My prediction for Miss Sloane is $4.5 million for the weekend.
Join me this coming Monday for the results of this weekend's box office contenders. See you all then!
