David Leitch Chosen to Helm Deadpool 2
I think it's safe to say the Deadpool 2 ship has been righted. I know we were all very upset when Tim Miller decided to leave the project due to creative differences, but I think we can all rest easy with the director who has been chosen to pick up the reins in Miller's stead. David Leitch, who was one of the co-directors that brought us the riotously entertaining John Wick will be taking up the mantle.
As a huge fan of John Wick I think this is about as good of a choice as they could have made. I had one problem with the Deadpool movie, and that was the excessive use of profanity. I know, I know; it's Deadpool, but if you've ever read a comic of his, the character isn't exactly that foul-mouthed. He's just insanely violent, hilarious and in some cases intentionally annoying. I'm hoping Leitch might tamper that down a bit while ratcheting up other elements of the character, like Deadpool's unique brand of slapstick violence.
In terms of action, I think Leitch is really going to excel. If you've seen John Wick, you'll immediately know why. John Wick is gun-fu galore...y'know, basically exactly what Deadpool's fighting style is. It's also encouraging that Leitch was able to accomplish so much with a small budget with John Wick, and I'm excited to see how Leitch does a lot with a little bit more in this Deadpool sequel.
