Box Office Results - 'Inferno'
Predicted: $25 million
Actual: $15 million
Wow, nobody cared about this at all. I knew there was less interest in this film, but not this much less. Inferno burned up on take-off and only mustered $15 million for the weekend. Ron Howard's latest wasn't even able to muster up enough cash to best the second weekend of Tyler Perry's latest Madea movie, granted, that film has a Halloween theme on the weekend right before Halloween, but still.
I predicted $25 million which turned out to be wayyyy off, I had suspected it might come in a bit lower, but didn't act on that suspicion, and even if I had guessed lower, it still probably wouldn't have been low enough to get hit this weekend. In the long run I don't see this film making it much further past the $45 million mark.
Boo! A Madea Halloween held up very well for a Tyler Perry film this weekend, so well that it retained its number 1 spot! The film grossed $16.5 million, only dropping 46% from last weekend. There's a minor caveat though; this is the weekend right before Halloween, which means, while this is a good number, I think it will completely collapse next weekend. Still, this film has already made more than enough ($52 million) to justify any expenditures and it going to end up being one of the more successful Tyler Perry films.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back took a big hit this weekend, which usually signifies that people didn't exactly like what they saw and word-of-mouth dented the film's longevity. The Tom Cruise-starring action sequel grossed $9.5 million, which is a 58% drop from last weekend. The film is doing fine at about $40 million, but it's not going to make enough to justify a 'Jack Reacher 3'. Ouija: Origin of Evil seems to be taking with audiences as it dropped just under 50%, bringing in $7 million for the weekend, which is commendable for a horror film. The low-budget sequel has grossed $25 million so far and could make it to $40 million if it doesn't crater next weekend when there's no more Halloween on the horizon.
Finally, Keeping Up with the Joneses had a respectable drop of only 38%, bringing in $3.4 million. That being said, it's not enough to save this film which had a disastrous opening last weekend, but it is nice to know that it isn't going completely up in flames. Keeping Up with the Joneses has grossed almost $11 million so far.
