Tim Miller not Returning for 'Deadpool 2'
Ugh, I hate news like this. Fox has reported that Tim Miller will not be returning to direct Deadpool 2 over creative differences. Creative differences with who, you ask? Ryan Reynolds. This is upsetting and honestly a little baffling as these two have been working together for a very long time and stuck together while the first Deadpool was in production hell for years and years. Anyway, thanks equally to Miller and Reynolds; Deadpool is one of the year's biggest hits and made waves as one of the highest grossing R-rated movies ever.
I guess the one slightly positive thing I can glean from this news is that 20th Century Fox isn't trying to hijack the production and run it into the ground like they've done in the past. That said, it's still very disconcerting that these two would have a disagreement so serious as to make TIm Miller leave the film entirely.
James Gunn, who directed Guardians of the Galaxy, wrote on his twitter about his disappointment with the decision:
"Honestly bummed about Tim Miller leaving Deadpool. He did an amazing job with the first one; I’d like to have seen where he’d go next."
I agree. Even if I didn't find the first film to be perfect, I would have liked to see if Miller would have flourished even more in the sequel. Hopefully an equally great director is selected for the sequel and the divorce really was amicable.
