Box Office Predictions: 'The Accountant', 'Max Steel' and 'Kevin Hart: What Now?'

Box Office Predictions: 'The Accountant', 'Max Steel' and 'Kevin Hart: What Now?'

We've got another three wide releases entering the fray this weekend, and they all target very different demographics. The most promising release seems to be the Ben Affleck starrer, The Accountant, though it will face direct competition from last weekend's The Girl on the Train. Next up we have the action-figure-based sci-fi superhero film Max Steel, which doesn't look to be in good shape heading into the weekend. Finally, we have the always-reliable Kevin Hart, who is releasing his next stand-up show: Kevin Hart: What Now?.

The Accountant (WB)
Prediction: $20 million

The trailer for this film slowly got its hooks in me after I viewed it numerous times in the theater. Based off of that I feel like this film has an interesting story to tell and that Ben Affleck is a big enough star to sell just about anything at this point. The film will be direct competition for The Girl on the Train so it won't have an opportunity to break out too much, but it should still have a decent enough opening. My prediction for The Accountant is $20 million.

Max Steel (Open Road Films)
Prediction: $8 million

I really haven't seen much hype for this at all, in fact, no one has even mentioned it since the trailer came out. I do think there are a few people who are fans of the property that might show up though, but it's not going to be enough to register any more than a small blip on the radar. Another hindrance is the fact that this is opening in just over 2000 screens, which doesn't give it the exposure that other films of this nature would need to be successful. I predict that Max Steel won't even be able to pass the $10 million mark.

Kevin Hart: What Now? (Universal)
Prediction: $10 million

Kevin Hart is a superstar. He's one of the few that can wide release any one of his comedy shows and people will show up. His latest production, Kevin Hart: What Now? has an even larger production and looks even glitzier than his previous outings. Despite the added bells and whistles, I don't think this is going to open any higher than his last film, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain. My prediction for Keven Hart: What Now? is around $10 million.

Be sure to check back in on Monday where we see how the weekend box office turned out and how those numbers compare to the ones I predicted.
