Help Us Heal Peepers, Our Companion Bunny

This is Peepers:

Peepers is a good bunny. No, Peepers is a great bunny! We’ve had him for almost two years, and he’s brought us countless hours of joy. We feel blessed to have this lil’ fuzzball rampaging through our lives, and we want to continue hanging out with him for years to come. That’s why I’m writing this — Peepers has been a little sick lately, and we need your help to heal him. He developed an abscess on the lower part of his jaw (sadly, a common malady in house rabbits). According to the vet, Peepers might have to undergo two surgeries to remove it. If we don’t remove the abscess, he won’t be able to eat, and he could die. (Oh no!)

Peepers already underwent one surgery last week to drain the abscess. He did great, and he took all the scary poking and prodding like a champ. But Peeps has to undergo a few more procedures to remove the abscess completely and get healthy again. We’re asking you, friends, pals, and fellow bunny lovers, to please consider donating anything you can to help us heal Peepers. All the funds raised from this page will be designated solely for Peepers treatment: Surgery, meds, various vet bills.

As some of you rabbit owners probably know, abscess treatment is super expensive. We’ve already payed for one costly surgery, and it looks like lil’ Peeps has two more surgery dates coming up. We’re all set to pay for his next procedure, thanks to a small pet care credit loan, but we’re gonna need a little help financially to fully complete his treatment and to get him healthy again. We’re looking to raise about $1,000 to pay for the upcoming surgeries and X-rays and medication. We want to give Peepers the best quality of life possible, because he’s given us so much, and we hope you’ll want to be a part of that. You can donate anything you want by clicking the button below and donating via secure Paypal. It only takes a minute. Even $1 will help. We’ll post updates on Peepers’ recovery here and on my Facebook page.

So why do we love this lil’ bunny so much? Because he’s made us happier people and increased our quality of life ever since we brought him home.

He’s not only a cute pet, Peepers is a smart and loving companion. He’s helped us get through some difficult times. For instance, Mrs. Moody had some health problems earlier this year. It was rough, but Peepers helped her get through it by cuddling with her, playing with her, and cheering her up with his fuzzy face, floppy ears, and charming personality. Peeps has helped us live happier and healthier lives, and we only want to return the favor. So please donate if you can. We know times are tough for everyone, and to be honest we probably wouldn’t have put this page up if the nation’s economic struggles hadn’t affected our household so much. But it did, and here we are, doing our best to save our wonderful companion and asking for your help. Thanks for reading. Please click on the button below to donate via secure Paypal. Remember, even $1 will help. (Scroll down to read more more about our bunny! Email me [mikemoody[AT]me.com] if you have any questions.)

Want to know a little more about Peepers the Bunny?

  • Well, first off, his name isn’t really “Peepers.” Say Wha? No, it’s true! Peepers is a nickname. We also call him “Peeps.” His full name is Lapidus. That’s right, we named our bunny after the crusty old pilot guy from Lost. Why? Because that crusty old pilot guy is awesome, and so is our bunny!
  • Peepers developed his abscess on the lower left side of his jaw. According to the vet, it’s the result of genetics and dental problems. (We’ve worked hard to give Peepers a balanced diet, but bunny dental problems can be hard to avoid.) You can read more about abscess in rabbits at the House Rabbit Society Chicago site and the general House Rabbit Society site. If you want to get a good idea of what we’ve been going through with Peeps, I recommend watching this great video series about Spice, a bunny that went though similar treatment.
  • Peeps is, like, super smart! He comes when called, and his big ears perk up when he hears someone mention his name. He’s litter trained, very clean, and he runs free in our apartment here in Austin. He’s social and friendly, and he will eat right out of your hand. But don’t close the door of his favorite room in the house (the guest room) or he’ll stomp at you and shake his head! He knows the word “banana” and if you say “kissy, kissy,” he’ll put his nose up to your cheek (awwwee).
  • Peepers was Harry Houdini in a former life. He has shocked Mrs. Moody and me with his escape artist abilities. When Peeps was a teeny bun, he escaped out of every cage we tried to put him in (and these were large cages, people not teeny ones). He learned to open locks, untie knots, climb via sofa and friction (don’t ask). You name it, he did it. In the end, we decided to allow him to roam free in the apartment, and that has worked out just fine for everyone.
  • Peeps likes to chill.
